The Storm...
The same view from the living room window...24 hours after I took the other pictures!
That storm was over by Monday! On Monday, it was still snowing, and of course there were heaps of snow everywhere (there still are), but the worst was over. I don't think Montreal suffered a lot, despite the storm being the worst in decades. The storm hit a large part of the north-eastern US, and there were powercuts and traffic deaths in places. The BBC has a couple articles, plus pictures that people have sent in. (As you may have noticed, I recently discovered that there's a 'link' option, so I'm using it ad nauseam now.) :)
My friends did get back to Montreal safe and on time, though it took Lauren either 1.5 hours or 2.5 hours (can't remember!) to get from the airport to her 'home' downtown (a trip that usually takes 20 - 30 min without traffic). Cars are having a really hard time getting out of their parking spaces, and a lot of people are using the metro instead of driving, which means that rush hour in the metro is crazy now. :)
Lauren and Corinna both had a really hard time trying to call taxi companies to book a taxi for today, because they always get a busy signal. Clearly, despite the storm being over, the city is still crazy.
My former room mate Marilou just sent me an email telling me I'd better check my flight, too. Of course, because it's Christmas, all those people who got their flights cancelled had to be put on other flights, but in some cases they have to wait more than a week (until after Christmas) until there's an available flight.
All this has gotten me a bit worried about Friday... I have an exam from 9am to 12pm, and my flight leaves at 5.40pm. I'm not usually paranoid, but I think I'll make sure I'm there way ahead of time. I'll have my things packed by Thursday evening anyway, so when I get home, I can eat lunch and then head out, just in case...
Until then, though, I'm enjoying the gorgeous snow. Snow is beautiful, despite it being cold and sometimes annoying. When the sun is out and the sky is blue, everything looks so gorgeous! You get used to the weird walking (you really can't walk normally in snow; I don't think that's too great for my feet...), and the slush on the roads, and you learn to watch out for the ice patches (I hate those! I've fallen prey to one of them before - fortunately it wasn't as bad as some falls I've watched. Ouch!). :)
Right, I'd better get going. I have studying to do, and I have to do some shopping: Christmas shopping, plus I need a winter coat. I don't want to go look for a winter coat, though. I don't have the patience or time to look for one now...At least Marilou gave me some great tips, and I know where I'll start. Let's just hope I find the perfect coat in that first store... (that would be so cool!)
Well, I'll probably be MIA for a bit. Tomorrow will be filled with studying, cleaning the apartment, doing laundry (and doing the shopping I didn't manage to do today), plus I have to pack, and get to bed at a decent hour! Then Friday, I have my exam, and am off to the airport to fly to LA, where I'll spend 24 hours with Cristy (Yay!), before I catch a flight to Singapore. I'll be arriving in Singapore on Monday morning (24th of December). Perfect timing! :) So all that was to tell you I won't be blogging until next week, but I do hope to update while I'm in Singapore! Merry Christmas, everyone! :)
